Client
The Client is the largest voluntary, not-for-profit health care system, serving the South and Central Bronx, with 958 beds at two major hospital divisions; a major psychiatric facility; two specialized long term care facilities; and an extensive Network of 70 medical practices, including the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center.
Background
Operating room Charge Capture requires several people at various stages to complete
pieces of the process. From Surgeons to Nurse Managers, from Technicians to
Anesthesiologists and from Residents to Unit Receptionists are responsible for proper
functioning of said process and accurate and complete capture of all OR charges.
This process begins with marking the OR Schedule with highlighting markers to update the
status of the scheduled OR patients. This deciphers whether the patient actually went
through the surgery or if it was cancelled/ rescheduled. Once the OR case starts, the file
binder carrying the OR schedule is updated accordingly.
Challenge
Infospan team’s task is to replace the currently in place charge ticket/ encounter form, and
put in place alternate route for these charge messages to be generated automatically
using the information from the existing EHR system and forward it to the hospital financial
system -Patcom.
Solution
This solution implemented by Infospan facilitated compliant billing by stopping inaccurate charges generation by putting rules in
place and report on missing charges/ erroneous charges. It also successfully eliminated duplicate entries of data thereby avoiding
data entry errors and allow monitoring and auditing of electronic datasets for accurate charge capture.
The system also provides relevant reports to measure effective functioning of this process and identify gap so they can be
fixed.
